Been to Gregoire a few times, and I really enjoyed the food. An obvious must is their potato puffs. As a potato lover, I was in heaven eating this. Every bite just gets better and better. The service is quick & there are about 2 tables to sit on outside, but other than that, the place is super small from the inside so it is better to pick up your food & eat somewhere else.
I didn't realize how close this place was to a very popular Pizza place we love. I remember seeing this place on Yelp and I finally had the chance to drop by the area and check it out. Since I was in a hurry, I pre-ordered via Toast App. Parking was annoying haha. It was around 2p, and I couldn't find any street parking. I eventually found one after circling around a few times. As I was walking to the place, I noticed a few tables outside for seating. I didn't realize there wasn't any indoor seating, unless I completely missed it. I entered the door and was greeted right away. I gave my name and the friendly gentlemen gave me my potato puffs. Now, I had really high expectations for these haha. I guess that's sometimes the downfall of reading reviews before hand haha. It was very fluffy and airy, which is definitely the only way you can describe it. It does like melt as you eat it. Oh, pro tip, don't just pop a whole one in your mouth, you will get burned haha. The flavor was good, but nothing like super wow! I wouldn't make a trip down here just for the potato puffs, but when in the area to get my favorite pizza, I may stop by.
I hadn't been back here since 2021 and it was just as delicious as I remembered! My boyfriend and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the pork patties burger, and the potato puffs with added parmesan. I appreciate that the sandwiches come already cut in half, perfect for sharing! The fried chicken sandwich had a spicy kick without being overwhelming, and both sandwiches were very flavorful and filling. The potato puffs, which I hadn't tried before, are crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside -- they almost melt in your mouth. This was a wonderful meal for a casual lunch date and I look forward to coming back! There are a few picnic tables right out front but this is primarily a takeout spot. We arrived shortly before noon and they already seemed to have quite a few orders and patrons. We were lucky to snag one of the tables and got to enjoy our meal in the sunshine.
No other form of potato will be as delicious and perfect as the potato puff Tbh I've never tried any of Grégoire's other food besides the puffs, so this was a nice surprise! We came in on a sunny Sunday morning for brunch. It wasn't terribly crowded, but the little outside seating provided was full and we went vulture mode for our spot haha I ordered the bay scallops salad and ofc the puffs. The salad was refreshing, I loved the wide variety of greens and textures. They give a lot of scallops as well. Potato puffs are obviously the star. They're light, fluffy, smooth, crispy. Just amazing. If I could only have one form of potato for the rest of my life, it would be gregoire potato puffs. Service is also 10/10. Very accommodating and warm. Highly recommend everyone change their life and eat a potato puff pls!!!
As a die hard potato lover, Gregoire was superb! We came here on a Sunday afternoon and they have a couple picnic style tables out front. The lines weren't too long but the place was relatively busy with many ordering to-go. We tried the potato puffs and the poutine. Potato puffs were 5/5!!! Soooo good. They were basically these fried mashed potato balls that were deep fried. Came out super hot and the garlic aioli was excellent! Poutine was 4/5 - pretty darn good for the Bay Area! It's super hard to find poutine in the Bay and as a Canadian, I've missed this snack! The cheese curbs and gravy were on point! Only wished the fries were a little on the crispier side! But good nonetheless. If only my diet and weight would allow me to eat at this place all the time... :)
When living in North Berkeley in 2015 and 2016, I frequently passed Grégoire when walking to/from the grocery store. Sometimes the lines were long, but always the smell was good. So I noted it as a place to visit with someone from out of town. My sister, Lindsey, came to visit me in 2016 and had previously spent a few months in Paris, France, for cooking school. She seemed the perfect fit to bring here. We ordered in the restaurant, waited and grabbed our food boxes, and sat at a small table out front to eat our food. I ordered an omelette that came with potatoes served with a small amount of cream on top. The flavors were subtle yet present. Temperature wise, the omelette was steaming when I opened the box and all of the items were well cooked/an all clear texturally. In terms of ambiance, the workers and decor made it a memorable experience for me. For my sister, it was a little less so in part because of her recent memories of French food in France.
I've had this place bookmarked for several years now, but I'm hardly ever in the area, so it's totally slipped my mind. I was visiting downtown Berkeley today to try out a nearby brewery and came across this place while looking on google maps, so I made sure to finally visit and try out their famous potato balls! I got two orders of the original potato balls with the aioli & damn this was soooo delicious! Definitely beats every other potato bal/croquettes out there! It came out piping fresh, with ooey gooey pillowy potato on the inside, and a slightly crispy, but fragile crust. Simply perfect. I 100% will stop by this place again next time I'm in the area! Only thing is, I really, really wish they had a restroom!
Came for my birthday lunch and was not disappointed! I've came alone in the past for their fried chicken sandwich and potato puffs, but decided to bring some coworkers along to taste the magic. I really enjoy their rotating seasonal menu that keeps things interesting. This time I ordered their salmon lime ceviche sandwich (summer 2024 menu) which also had avocado and taro chips thrown onto Dutch crunch bread. A little skeptical of fish sandwiches, but it blew me away in terms of substance and flavor. I of course had to order the potato puffs and share the love. Service was quick and sweet even though they were busy with the lunch rush. They operate out of a simple shack for lack of a better word, but at least you know you're coming for the food and not paying extra for the ambiance. Hope to be back soon and try yet another sandwich (or maybe a salad)
I would give 4.5 stars if I could because my only complaint is no indoor seating and not enough coleslaw in the sandwich. I grew up coming here w my dad before going to Cal football games and I went back today (random Tuesday) with some friends. We went around 12:15pm and there was no line and plenty of seating available which is often not the case. I'm the past we'd sit on the steps of some random house nearby, the neighborhood is nice and we haven't had problems with that... Today I got the classic fried chicken sandwich and my vegetarian friend got the egg salad sandwich (it's only here for the summer). I loved mine but wish it was spicier and had more coleslaw, and from what I can tell she loved her sandwich too. We got the iconic potato puffs to share and omg they never disappoint!! I come back here about once a year, and my friends said they definitely wanna come back too :)
